! Ripping Page Images from PDF Book Scans (Linux) To make sure Imagemagick is installed: TEXT --- sudo apt-get install imagemagick --- * ^[Examples]. ^ http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/ To extract high-quality PNGs of all the pages, numbered n4-p-0.png, etc: TEXT --- convert -density 600 biblentgreektext00nestuoft.pdf -colorspace RGB -resample 277 n4-p.png --- Note that this can take a minute per page, so it's an all-day or overnight run for a PDF of 500+ pages. To grab just one page for testing, add square brackets: TEXT --- convert -density 600 biblentgreektext00nestuoft.pdf[14] -colorspace RGB -resample 277 n4-p-14.png --- File sizes can be reduced by a factor of 3-4 over JPEGs if we use PNG8. 64 colors seems sufficient. TEXT --- convert file1.png -colorspace Gray -brightness-contrast 5x30 -sharpen 3 -resize 600 -colors 64 PNG8:file2.png ---
